from the Commodore’s Column in G&P

Looking forward, the Executive Board has decided to formally cancel the Glimmerglass Regatta as well as weekend racing for the remainder of the season. However, we do plan to hold the annual Labor Day Hyde Bay Race, always the highlight of the sailing/racing season. This year, we may need to picnic on our boats instead of going ashore. Stay tuned for updates...

RACING AT OSC
and
Slideshows shown below, at bottom of page.....

The Otsego Sailing Club promotes sailboat racing with an active schedule throughout the season.  The OSC facilitates both Handicap Racing with the Portsmouth Handicap System, and One-Design Class Racing.  The OSC has a broad mix of Big Boat Racing/Cruisers, and features One-Design Thistle, Flying Scot and Laser Classes.  Any type of boat is welcome to participate.

A variety of different courses are sailed, and our Race Committees use the OLLIE Starting System, enhancing the starting sequence.  Scores are tallied throughout the various events and series, culminating with an awards presentation at the end of the season.

The OSC hosts the Glimmerglass Regatta annually in September.  Visit the 'Glimmerglass Regatta page' for more information on Notice of Race (NOR), Registration Forms, and the new On-line Registration, all under this page/'Tab'.

Throughout the summer there is a full schedule of racing both Saturday and Sunday.  The racing schedule is on the Calendar, with most weekend races starting at 1pm.  Numerous weekends do have modified start times, which are also noted on the calendar.  Email any questions to Wayne at: wmellor@stny.rr.com

Racing Eligibility:
The OSC welcomes all members and guests to participate in racing.  To be scored in an OSC race, one of the following provisions must be met:
-The skipper is a Regular Member (comment: this would allow any Regular Member to skipper any boat)
-The boat owner (or co-owner) is a Regular Member and on board during race (comment: this would allow anyone (OSC member or not) to skipper)
-Fleet Championship events shall allow class fleet members to participate regardless of OSC membership status (comment: any fleet member may participate in fleet championship regardless if they’re an OSC member or not)

There is usually a need for crew for the racing.  All you have to do is be ready to learn. Everybody is welcome. You should arrive by 11:00 AM and indicate your desire to race. Most races are in the afternoon, although some weekends have earlier starting times.  Remember to check the calendar in advance!
