Racing & Sailing Resources

There are many organizations which promote and support the sport of sailing. Below are a few of the more prominent, as well as the some of the class associations of sailboats currently owned by OSC members.

The Thistle Fleet participates regularly in club racing and the annual Glimmerglass Regatta held on Otsego Lake by OSC

Flying Scot Sailing Association

The Flying Scot is one of the few small boats which have been in steady production since 1957.

International Laser Class Association -
9th District

The Laser is an Olympic class sailboat sailed competitively across the globe. Competitive Laser sailing is governed by the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) based out of Falmouth England.

The Laser is the the OSC Sailing School intructional boat.

USSailing.org

US Sailing was originally organized as the North American Yacht Racing Union
(NAYRU) on October 30, 1897. As the National Governing Body for the sport of
sailing, US Sailing's mission is to provide leadership for the sport of sailing
in the United States. The organization works to achieve this mission through a
wide range of programs and events, geared towards providing an equal level
playing field for all sailors. US Sailing sets the course enabling sailors to
enjoy the sport for a lifetime.

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is the world governing body for the
sport of sailing, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee
(IOC). 

ISAF is responsible for: the promotion of the sport internationally; managing sailing at 
                   the Olympic Games; developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing 
                   competitions; the training of judges, umpires and other administrators; the development 
                   of the sport around the world; and representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
